KYMCO AK 550 CVT Belt Replacement — Steps and Factory Parts

Updated 2026-08-19 · part numbers verified against the live catalog

Opening the CVT on the AK 550 is a straightforward job with one rule: never reuse the gaskets. A CVT that breathes dust eats belts, so the case gasket, the cover gasket, and the cover's filter element go on the parts list next to the belt itself. The belt lives on your model's E07 Transmission diagram; the covers and gaskets are on E05 Right Crankcase Cover — open your exact year to see the exploded views with every bolt.

The job, step by step

  1. Get to the CVT cover. Scooter secure on the center stand, then out with the cover bolts — note their lengths and positions as you go; several differ. The E05 diagram shows every bolt position if you lose track.
  2. Inspect before you swap. Check the old belt's sidewalls for cracking and glazing and measure its width against the wear limit in your service manual. Look at the variator and clutch faces for scoring while they're exposed.
  3. Fit the new belt. Match the rotation-direction arrows to the old belt. Never lever a belt over the pulleys with tools — open the driven pulley by hand instead.
  4. New gaskets, always. Fit the new case gasket and cover gasket, and swap the cover's filter element — it is the CVT's air filter.
  5. Torque and test. Tighten the cover bolts progressively in a cross pattern to the torque in your service manual, then ride gently for the first few miles while the belt beds in.

Wear limits and torque figures are in the AK 550 service manual and differ by year — when this guide and your manual disagree, the manual wins.

How to confirm fitment for your exact model

Model names repeat across years and regions, so the safest way to order the right CVT part is to confirm it on your model's own diagram:

  1. Find your vehicle on the All Models page — or decode your VIN with the VIN lookup to land on the exact model-year variant.
  2. Open the drivetrain or engine diagram for your model (the exploded views mirror KYMCO's factory fiche).
  3. Check that the part number on the diagram matches the one in the chart above, then order straight from the part page.

If a part number has been superseded, the part page shows the replacement — you will always receive the current factory part.
